The Foster Home of Mary and Patrick

Y.E.S. Uganda – The Foster Home of Mary and Patrick

Mary and Patrick are foster parents to 12 of the most needy and desperate children of the Youth Encouragement Services (Y.E.S.). As grandparents whose children had moved to the city, they were left with an "empty nest" and asked if they could assist with any children. These two have created a home for 12 of our kids who have known no home life. We are able to give them a small amount of money to help cover the added costs of having so many kids to feed and care for but it cannot begin to cover the love and parental care given by these loving people.

These are the children they are caring for and their stories.

Magume Kenneth and Alaija Julius are brothers. They were living with their grandmother who died when they were 5 and 6 years old. This left five children to be cared for by the oldest sibling who was only 12. As they grew, it was obvious that they were having a difficult time finding enough to eat and were not getting any mature guidance. Mary and Patrick are now giving them that much needed home and family.

Kahunde Grace was growing up with her older brother who took a wife into his home when he was only 16 and Grace was 13. The lady hated Grace and was beating and abusing her severely. Grace ran away one Saturday with only the clothes on her back and came to our office. We called Mary who said that we could bring her there. She was a difficult child both behaviorally and physically. Initially, there were some hard times, but she has been learning boundaries and is becoming a well adjusted child.

Y.E.S. Uganda – The Foster Home of Mary and Patrick Nabasa Charity and Nyisiga Alex are sister and brother from another child-headed family. We feared for Charity as she matured because her older brother had already sold her sister to a man in exchange for two cows. Alex was sickly and looking very unhealthy. Charity is now full of smiles and is a helpful girl at the home. Alex was discovered to have sickle cell disease and is now under medication and improving greatly. He is brilliant at school.

Kusemerewa Stephen and Nyakaisiki Winfred are also brother and sister. They were living with loving grandparents whose children had all died from AIDS, leaving them overwhelmed with 18 orphaned grandchildren. Mary offered to take them into her home where they have gone from very poor students in school to quite good achievers.

Kahwa Bosco was living in extreme poverty in a small mud hut with his grandmother and several older siblings. Patrick and Mary knew of his huge needs and took him into the family.

Kabasongora Scovia is a girl who had a horrendous life where she was not wanted anywhere. She was emotionally damaged to the extent she was suffering with seizures. Now, after the love and care from Mary and Patrick, she is in senior one and a happy well adjusted young lady.

Twin boys Isingoma Adolf and Lawrensio Kato aged 10 and their 12 year old sister Tuhaise Christine are the newest addition to the family. They have been orphaned since the twins were only 1 and have been tossed from one place to another. Christine is adjusting well and the twins are full of mischief. Based on their previous successes with troubled children, we have faith that through loving boundaries, these boys will come along just fine.

If you feel led to contribute towards this home in any way it would be much appreciated. This family is in constant need of clothing, soap, and all the basic necessities it takes to care for 12 kids. You can contact us at YesUganda@gmail.com.
